Who We Are

Founder and President Jeff Sanderson understands the importance of client relationships in the home building process. This principle is incorporated into each aspect of home construction, from initial space planning to interior design. Named for Jeff's daughters, the company was founded in 1986. Jeff defined the two guiding principles of Whitney Blair, based upon his own personal beliefs:
-
Treat each client as a valuable partner in the homebuilding process to result in a long-term, trust-based homeowner relationship
-
Construct homes utilizing advanced technologies and building methods, resulting in homes that are of the highest quality and that are equally energy and environmentally efficient
Following these principles, Whitney Blair has been recognized on the local, state, and national levels receiving top awards for the company's contribution to crafting homes of exceptional quality, attention to detail, and innovative home design. To complement this recognition, Southern Living® selected Whitney Blair to become an exclusive member of the Southern Living® Custom Builder Program, due to the company's demonstration of home construction quality, design, company reputation and stability. Southern Living® recently honored Whitney Blair as their 2008 Custom Builder of the Year.
It is the company commitment of Whitney Blair to be an industry- recognized residential builder as a contributor to the values of quality and innovative homebuilding. Each employee of Whitney Blair is asked to challenge himself to remain ahead of the curve in home construction, utilizing new technologies and exploring innovative home features that result in a better environmentally built and overall more cost-effective and energy-efficient home.

+ Phase 1 – Plan Design and Budget Estimate
Design – During the Design Phase, our Whitney Blair Design Team works with you to plan a home that meets not only your space requirements, but your lifestyle needs. To accomplish this important goal we encourage you to provide us with your ideas through plan searches, magazine clippings, and even hand drawn sketches you may have so we can begin to establish your vision of your new home. You will also be provided a Whitney Blair New Home Planner that will outline in detail what to expect as you proceed with the various phases of home construction. This is provided to ensure you are completely comfortable and informed throughout every phase of the building process.
Budget Estimate – When we have finalized the floor plan of your home, we will meet with you and review the plan room by room to determine your selections such as flooring needs (hardwood, tile, or carpet), as well as cabinets, countertops and interior trim styles and locations. When we have these details, we will bid the home with our subcontractors. We then consolidate these bids to establish the budget estimate of the home.
Contract Meeting – Upon completion of the budget estimate, we will meet with you to review the detailed specifications for your home which will include your selected interior finishes and appropriate allowances, which will comprise the contract price for your home.
+ Phase 2 – Pre-Construction
Permitting Process – Permitting times can vary widely, due to municipal requirements, and the specific permits required for your home. Our goal is to have your home completed within 7-9 months of obtaining all necessary permits.
Interior Designer Assistance – A professional interior design service is provided to assist you in coordinating selections for your new home. Through a series of consultations with our interior designer, your selections for flooring, cabinetry, ceramic tile, plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, paint colors and exterior elements of your home will be thoughtfully coordinated to your specific requests.
+ Phase 3 – Construction
A general overview of the homebuilding phases are provided below:
Foundation – The lot is cleared, footings and foundation walls are installed, along with the garage slab.
Framing – The floors, walls, and roof are framed to provide a solid skeleton for your home.
Exterior Finish – All windows, doors, house wrap, roofing, and siding, along with decks and driveway are installed at this time. This exterior stage will overlap several of the interior stages.
Rough-Ins – All of the “hidden” systems are installed, including plumbing, HVAC, electric, and specialty wiring (phone, cable, sound, and security). You will be asked to attend an electrical walk-through on site after framing is completed to ensure all lights, switches and outlets will be placed where they are most convenient for you.
Drywall – In the Drywall Stage, we ensure that your home is energy efficient with various forms of insulation before finishing the interior walls.
Cabinets and Trim – Expert craftsmen install the woodwork you have selected for your home including molding, cabinets, stair railings and doors.
Painting – During the painting phase, you will have the opportunity to work with our interior designer on choosing colors for the interior and exterior of your new home.
Trim Outs – The installation of appliances, plumbing, and electrical fixtures completes trade work.
Flooring – The subfloors are covered with the materials you have chosen such as carpet, tile, and hardwood. Different materials are installed at different times during the construction process, but all flooring will be completed by this stage.
Lockout – All final details such as door and bath hardware, mirrors, and shelving are installed.
Landscaping – Plants, sod, and irrigation are installed at this time.
+ Phase 4 – Completion, Closing, and Warranty Support
Pre-Closing Walk-Through – At this point, closing is only days away. We will perform a walk-through on the home for any outstanding punch list items, and focus on completing all items prior to closing.
Final Financing, Closing, Final Walk-Through – Several weeks prior to closing we will notify you to start processing your final documents with your financial institution. On average, most banks will need 3 weeks or so to order the proper appraisals and process the paperwork. ‘Closing’ your home is defined as settling all financial arrangements with your financial institution and/or mortgage company to allow you to assume financial responsibility and ownership of your home from Whitney Blair. At this juncture we will provide you with your personal Whitney Blair Custom Home Owner Manual and Warranty Reference Guide during a final walk through of your home with you, to review all external and internal operating systems to ensure your expectations in owning a Whitney Blair home are completely fulfilled.
Warranty Support – With staff dedicated to supporting warranty requests, we are only a phone call or email away, and will follow up with you periodically to ensure all is well with your Whitney Blair home.
